Love, Anger, Madness by the Haitian novelist Marie Vieux-Chauvet, is one of those books which like Ngugi wa Thiong'o's Devil on the Cross could have disappeared from sight. While I can never claim to be a pragmatist, I do know that this Sunday edition enjoys a far larger readership than any of the weekday versions, so I'm turning over one part of my swansong to a remarkable book, which deserves and demands readership throughout the Caribbean and the wider world.

Too bad Thor's/Shango day has hitherto been my unluckiest day of the week, but see how strange life can be, it's never too late either for change, or to become what you might have been. I'm on my way out of this Sunday slot, so I've got a couple of rounds left to alert some of my most unexpected readers (people who accost me in the grocery or car park) that these ruminations of a Creole Jew can be found from next month, in the Thursday edition.
